My British roots are showing!
From the Queen's Jubilee to Tom Daley's Stella McCartney swimsuit – who couldn't help but fall in love with everything British this summer... and we mean everything, Prince Harry!
My father is British, and after reconnecting with aunties and cousins in the English countryside a few summers ago, I am obsessed with all things Jack. The Union Jack, that is.
Lucky for me, I can get my fill of London life locally – at London Loft in the Halifax's Historic Properties. Owner, Roberta Munden has returned to her Maritime roots as Atlantic Canada's only Timothy Outlton distributor. Antiques dealer turned furniture reproductionist – Oulton is making more of a worldwide stir than Pippa Middleton's bottom (and her sister's missing top).
London Loft is not only the place for oversized leather "lounges" and unique, steamer trunk desks – the space itself is available for functions. With high ceilings and exposed stone walls – throw in a fog horn and you'll be channeling Sherlock Holmes and Andy Murray, sipping Pimm's with Wills and Kate.
In the meantime, our local antique stores have an ample supply of affordable royal kitsch. Frame an old print of Queen Elizabeth, or hang up a Charles and Diana commemorative wedding plate. Toss a Union Jack pillow on your sofa and you'll be whistling 'God Save the Queen' all the way to Coronation Street.
