Things are looking up.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep your cool, in an attic – in heels – in 30º weather?

This week I perfected the casual mopping of the dewy upper lip, and avoided raising my hand above my head to point out architectural features for fear of exposing sudden deodorant failure. Clients "from away" prefer their realtors to be more HGTV than TSN.

It's hot!

Anyhoo, I do have a point and it's attics! How often to I hear clients say that sloped rooflines are "wasted space". So not true!

Most houses in HRM have attics with enough headroom for a liveable space. Toss in a sky light or a dormer and voila! more square footage (and excellent resale potential). And, if the only access to your attic is one of those trap doors in the ceiling (avoid while wearing a skirt) get a contractor to cost out the viability of a staircase. Or keep the trap door and lock the kids up there. Kidding.

Built-ins are the best solution for any difficult space, and they can turn an awkward nook into a daybed or a perfect little office. I know my kids would be fighting over the attic space if it it looked like this one!

Keep cool and safe on this Friday the 13th. With any luck I'll be showing houses with central air conditioning and limited overhead features all weekend!
